Mediterranean high altitude wines

The limestone and clay terroir of the Guadalest Valley, with altitudes of up to 700 metres above the Mediterranean, the average annual temperature and the coolness of its summer nights, give MASOS wines exceptional qualities. The vineyard follows the contours of the land, respecting the terraces and dry stone margins made with mules and hoes by the inhabitants of this village, more than 800 years ago. A production that disappeared 100 years ago and that today the Vidal Balaguer family is rescuing from oblivion.

Our 10 hectares of vineyards grow Monastrell, Garnacha Tintorera, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo, Viognier, Syrah, Petit Verdot in reds and Chardonnay. Quality wines under the seal of the Alicante Designation of Origin and exclusive production made by the renowned winemaker and advisor of Oenoconseil in Bordeaux, Antoine Medeville and his team.

Vidal Balaguer

Monastrell
Syrah
Petit Verdot
Garnacha Tintorera

This red wine is made in honour of the Vidal Balaguer family and their historical dedication to agriculture. It is aged for exactly 18 months in French oak barrels before being aged for a further 12 months in the bottle.

Our selection wine combines complexity, care and tradition resulting in a product of extraordinary quality, exclusive and gastronomic.

Mas de la Mona

Chardonnay

Mas de la Mona is named after one of our farmhouses, where the Chardonnay grape is grown. Harvested at the end of August, at the exact point of ripeness of the grape, it guarantees its perfect acidity and fruity power. It is fermented in medium toasted French oak barrels for 10 months at controlled temperature and humidity.

Yellow in colour with lemony reflections, its flavours are evident in its silky entry with a lot of volume. Its aroma leads us to tropical notes and white stone fruit.

Albor

Monastrell
Cabernet Sauvignon
Garnacha Tintorera

Albor, our first red wine in honour of the birth of Masos. It is cherry red with violet reflections in its heart. Very expressive, with aromas of wild blue fruits, undergrowth, liquorice, spices and Mediterranean balsamic nuances. It has an intense, fleshy entry, with very fine tannins and well-balanced acidity. The centre of the mouth is structured, long and persistent on the finish, which shows its infinite soul.

Penya del Castellet

Monastrell

This rosé wine honours the Penya del Castellet, a fortress of Arab origin that stands out in the Guadalest Valley. The winemaking process begins with vinification in a stainless steel tank at a controlled, very slow temperature in order to enhance the floral and spicy aromas and the freshness of the Mediterranean. The wine is bled and fermented with its lees at a low temperature to maintain its freshness and aromatic intensity.

Its pinkish tone with electric reflections is manifested in the mouth with a fresh flavour and hints of fruity acidity.

Albor de Masos

The word Albor symbolises a new beginning, which is why it has been chosen to give its name to the first MASOS red wine. It is aged in French oak barrels for 10 months with controlled temperature and humidity and 12 months in the bottle.

Its entrance is fleshy with fine tannins and its olfactory taste is associated with wild black fruits, undergrowth, liquorice and Mediterranean balsamic nuances.
